Getting Around
Exploring Gilboa is best enjoyed by car, as the scenic backroads wind through the rolling hills and lush valleys of the northern Catskills. Drives along Potter Mountain Road and nearby Route 30 reveal sweeping mountain vistas, peaceful forests, and the sparkling waters of the Schoharie Reservoir—turning every outing into a tranquil escape. Parking is convenient at trailheads, lakeside spots, and local attractions. The landscape is especially captivating in autumn, when vibrant foliage blankets the hills, and in winter, when snow transforms the region into a serene wonderland. Wildlife sightings—like deer, wild turkeys, or even a fox—are common along the quiet country roads. Cell service can be spotty in the mountains, so it’s a good idea to download maps in advance. With your own car, you can discover Gilboa’s hidden gems and enjoy the freedom to explore at your own pace.
