Originally built in the 1920s, this delightful four-bedroom, three-bath home has been completely transformed with designer touches to offer a sophisticated retreat just steps from the Chesapeake Bay. The exterior showcases striking navy HardiPlank siding with crisp white trim and exposed rafter tails, a thoughtful nod to the home’s original architecture while embracing modern aesthetics. Filled with natural light, the home’s airy atmosphere perfectly complements its blend of historic charm and contemporary comfort, placing you just moments from the town’s beautiful beaches, parks, and vibrant downtown. Inside, you’ll find a spacious king bedroom with a dedicated remote work space, as well as a beautiful teal tiled walk-in shower that brings a touch of spa-like luxury to your stay. The queen ensuite bedroom is equally inviting that features a standing glass shower, offering both comfort and convenience. Tucked away in this bedroom's closet is a collapsable desk and office chair, which easily assembles to create another private work space. The remaining bedrooms are a queen bedroom and a cozy bunk room with a full and twin bed, making it ideal for up to eight guests. (Optional twin trundle located under the bunk) The third bathroom, located on the second floor, features a convenient tub and shower combination—perfect for families or guests who prefer a relaxing soak or a quick rinse. The open floor plan seamlessly connects the main living spaces, creating a warm and welcoming environment for relaxing or gathering together. The living room is designed for comfort, featuring a large, plush sofa and two rotating barrel chairs, each paired with a pillowed ottoman—perfect for lounging, reading, or enjoying movie nights on the large smart TV. Adjacent to the kitchen, a long dining table with four chairs and a side bench comfortably seats six to eight guests for shared meals or game nights. For casual bites or morning coffee, the breakfast bar offers three bar stools, providing another great spot to sit and chat. The gourmet kitchen is a true highlight, featuring striking quartz countertops, all stainless steel appliances, and engineered hardwood floors that flow seamlessly throughout the home. Both Keurig and drip coffee machines are provided, making it easy to prepare everything from quick breakfasts to leisurely dinners and your favorite morning brew. Step outside to enjoy peaceful mornings or relaxing evenings on the classic front porch, which features two Adirondack chairs—the perfect spot to sip coffee, unwind, and watch the neighborhood go by. Gather with loved ones on the back deck for a barbecue, complete with a propane grill and comfortable seating. The backyard is fully fenced, providing privacy and a safe space for your furry companions to play. A stone walking path leads from the private parking space accessed by the back alley up to the deck, so you can easily come and go without walking on the grass. Additional parking is available on the street in front of the house. For beach days, guests are welcome to use the four beach chairs, two beach umbrellas, life jackets, boogie boards, and sand toys provided with the home. Everything you need for fun and relaxation by the water is ready and waiting. Located just a few blocks from Cape Charles’ sandy beaches, locally owned shops, and vibrant dining scene, Swan’s Rest is perfectly situated for those looking to explore the charm of this coastal town. Guest Access
We offer convenient door codes for self-check-in. Chesapeake Properties by Portoro uses convenient keyless entry for self check-in, details provided 2 weeks (or less) prior to arrival by email and text message. • Early check-ins or late check-outs: If the property happens to be ready earlier than the standard 4 pm check-in time on the day of your arrival, in most cases an early arrival option may be available when confirmed with the main office. Late check-outs must be confirmed with main office staff prior to the date of departure.
Getting Around
Cape Charles is located near the southern tip of Virginia’s Eastern Shore right on the Chesapeake Bay. Cape Charles is a small town (the historic area is roughly a six block by six block square) that sits on the peninsula’s western coast… meaning you can sit on the beach in Cape Charles and watch the sunset right over the water. On the Chesapeake Bay, not the Atlantic Ocean, the water is calm and shallow. The picturesque town of Cape Charles is filled with Americana, all about family and beautiful surroundings, voted one of the Happiest Seaside Towns by Coastal Living. Non compliance could result in sizable fines. - All guests staying at an Chesapeake Properties Vacation Rentals by Portoro (Portoro Homes) are required to sign (esignature) a rental agreement and complete identity registration. - Age restrictions apply. Reservation holder must be 25 years of age. - Upon arrival, we aim to ensure your safety, proper access to the home, and guest features. Should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to Chesapeake Properties by Portoro directly. - Known damages incurred during your stay must be reported to the property manager immediately. - Before check in, we will send you detailed directions to ensure a seamless arrival. - Check-in time is 4:00 p.m. Check-out time is 10:00 a.m. - We cannot guarantee early check ins or late checkouts. When it is possible to check in early or check out late, there will be a fee for anything outside of a one hour window within our standard times. If your need for an early check in or late check out is great, your best option is to book an additional night. - Some homes have cameras for external monitoring only. - HOTEL TAX COLLECTION: In the State of Virginia and in Northampton County, all hotel and vacation rental hosts are required to collect hotel tax. We collect these taxes within the booking transaction. - Some homes offer pools/hot tubs, or access to communal pools. There is no guard around the water features when available.
